Not a lot of people know this, but I have this bizarre fascination with Mordred. I hesitate to say that I like him, but he certainly intrigues me and Asa Butterfield is simply brilliant. I particularly look forward to Mordred’s interactions with Merlin; I love antagonistic relationships where the characters have similar traits and experiences (e.g. Harry and Voldemort both growing up as orphans), but ultimately branch off from that upbringing in different directions. The dragon says that Mordred and Merlin are like “day and night”, but I find it really interesting that both of the above scenes have the two of them screaming and killing as reactions to a parental figure being murdered. Were it not for finding Arthur and a solid purpose for his magic, I think Merlin could’ve easily become someone like Mordred and that gives me chills. The fact that Mordred now totally hates Merlin makes it hard to shake the feeling that Mordred killing Arthur? Will be partially provoked by the fact that he means so much to Merlin, and I JUST—WHY CAN’T THEY ALL BE FRIENDS FOREVER? :(
I just finished watching the first episode where Mordred was in, and man the child is AMAZING. Creepy/scary, but amazing. I can’t wait to see him again.
